I just found this nice plug-in for PhotoShop that enables you to save images in “ico” format.

It makes dead ease to make favicon.ico, that little icon resting on the left side of your browser’s address bar.

You just need to download the plug-in here, and:

- If you are using PS CS3, place the “ICOFormat.plugin” file into your “applications/Adobe Photoshop CS3/File Formats” and re-start photoshop.

- If you are using PS CS3, place the “ICOFormat.plugin” file into your “applications/Adobe Photoshop CS4/Plug-ins/File Formats” and re-start photoshop.

I have only tested it with PS CS3 and CS4 on Mac OSX Leopard, but on the plug-in page it seems they have the solution for the windows version and older Photoshop as well.

After you install the plug-in, just make a image multiple of 16 by 16 pixel, save as favicon.ico upload to the root of your website, clean your browser’s cache and bammmm…
